Matthew Johnstone: Capturing Mindfulness

Capturing Mindfulness

Description

Matthew Johnstone's latest book Capturing Mindfulness, is a natural follow on from his last book Quiet the Mind which came out in 2012. It's a book on how to create mindfulness through photography. Matthew has been practicing what he terms 'photopresent' for the last 15 years and believes that next to meditation, this is one of the most creative and enjoyable ways to attain mindfulness in day-to-day life. The very essence of photography; after all, is all about focus and capturing 'the moment'. Matthew is fascinated by light, colour, composition and most importantly how he can see the world differently. For him, having camera in your hands is the reminder to consciously slow everything down from your breath, to your walk, to your thoughts and begin to really observe your surroundings as if seeing them for the first time. Mindfulness photography is about seeing something that no one else can, capturing something that will never happen again and finding beauty where it doesn't typically exist. When we become more consciously aware of where we are, what we're doing and what we're thinking, life can become calmer, more enjoyable and generally more manageable. Capturing Mindfulness is now one of Matthew's keynote talks.

Detailing the author's attendance at a Toltec workshop with don Miguel Ruiz in Capturing Mindfulness ebook pdf Teotihuacan, Mexico, this guide unearths and explores the unique and simple tool of forgiveness. The resource explains how this practical and powerful tool is believed to have immediate impact by bringing relief while unleashing love that has been blocked by personal resentments. Through the magic of reversal taught in this useful reference, readers can change their understanding of forgiveness and free themselves from the grip of resentment and hatred. He looks for example at the evolution of jazz as dance music, and rock 'n' roll through the eyes of the screaming, twisting teenage girls who made up the bulk of its early audience. Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and the Beatles are all here, but Wald also discusses less familiar names like Paul Whiteman, Guy Lombardo, Mitch Miller, Jo Stafford, Frankie Avalon, and the Shirelles, who in some cases were far more popular than those bright stars we all know today, and who more accurately represent the mainstream of their times. Written with verve and style, How the Beatles Destroyed Rock 'n' Roll shakes up our staid notions of music history and helps us hear American popular music with new ears.
